Up until now, we have only been able to accept cash or checks in the books. By accepting credit cards, we hope to make it easier for clients to access and pay for our services!

When you visit our booth, let the massage therapist know you will be paying with credit card. Our team will be using their smart phones to process credit card payments so please be patient with us as we acclimate to the technology!

Dear Working Well Resource Readers,

2013 has been an amazing year. First off, the world did not end on December 21, 2012 as some reported might happen. Getting to see 2013 is a huge success now that the Mayan’s have been disproven. Aside from this major hurdle, Working Well Massage has had a fantastic year, giving thousands of massages in the Chicagoland area, relaxing many Chicagoans (And out-of-town visitors to our corporate locations and chair massage stations inside Whole Foods Markets).

Chair massage is coming to Palatine inside Whole Foods Market!

Chair massage is our Working Well Massage specialty!

In 2012, we continued our partnership with Whole Foods Market in the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park stores in Chicago. I am very proud of our strong association with Whole Foods because I believe in their products and I am happy WWM can align with Whole Food Markets core values to provide healthy relaxation services inside two Chicagoland stores. Thanks to Rich Holley, Store team leader at the Lincoln Park Whole Foods Market ,and Mike Farmer, Store team Leader of the Gold Coast store for allowing us to operate our chair massage stations inside their stores!

In 2012, Working Well Massage continued to provide excellent massage therapists to our retail and corporate clients–and we will do so in 2013 as well! We are happy to be able to provide high quality services at affordable prices. Notice, I don’t say high quality services at low prices. We don’t do that and we don’t recommend it. Paying low prices usually means someone is getting ripped off, either the massage therapist or the customer (because the low paid services are usually not high quality!). As 2012 came to a close, I admit I was happy to hear that the company “Groupon” has had massive layoffs and is losing investors. I have written about the negative effects of deep discounting and sadly, I am seeing my beliefs bear out. I know I am in good company when Peter Cohan, Contributor to Forbes magazine,  agrees that Groupon is a bad idea for small businesses–and I say it’s bad for small business customers as well. At Working Well Massage, we have always tried to keep our prices affordable, but we still need to make a living. By offering a living wage to our massage therapists, we can continue to provide quality services, stay in business (a very important goal for small businesses!) and treat our current and future clients with respect and care. We love what we do and we are happy to help people save money on our services..but not at the cost of our business and our personal health!

Working Well Massage corporate clients have been happy to have us provide our stress relieving services on a daily, weekly, monthly and periodic basis. For reasons of confidentiality, we do not broadcast our client companies names, but we can say that our clients include financial services, marketing companies, software manufacturers, manufacturing firms, schools, universities, police stations, private pampering parties and not-for-profits. This year Working Well Massage also donated time and money to local and national charities such as Climate Cycle among other groups.

Aside from the stress of the holidays, it’s the end of 2010 and many of us are feeling the tension from increased holiday traffic, holiday party obligations, kids being off school, economic woes and general deadlines and busy-ness. All that stress can lead to muscle tension, stress-related ailments like headaches, gastrointestinal distress and fatigue. I have had a lot of extra stress due to final exams myself!

So where can we go for stress relief? You know I am going to say to get a massage! And you know where I recommend going to get fantastic massage, with no appointment needed and  no need to disrobe or take a few hours out of your busy schedules: Working Well Massage chair massage stations in the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park Whole Foods Markets.

DECEMBER YELP SPECIAL: Stop by one of our two Working Well Massage chair stations any time between Noon and 8pm this December and mention our Yelp special to receive a 20-minute massage for only $20 (regularly $24). Offer valid until December 31, 2010. Valid one per client. No valid with other offers. Check out our ad on Yelp:  Go to our WWM Gold Coast ad page here . Go to our WWM Lincoln Park Yelp page here.

I don’t just recommend you go and get a massage from one of the talented Working Well Massage therapists, I go myself! During Final exams, I’ve been to both the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park massage stations for massages quite a few times. I usually get at least 20 minutes, 30 minutes if I have time. In 20 minutes, I know I can get most of the tension worked out of my neck and shoulders with even some attention to my low back. Bending over a computer typing or reading and studying heavy textbooks, makes my neck and shoulders really tense and sore. So, for me, chair massage is perfect because I get attention paid to the areas I hurt the most, while sitting in a really relaxing padded massage chair.

The price for chair massage is very reasonable as well. instead of paying $80 (or MORE) for a massage at a spa where I may or may not get a massage therapist I like, I can get shorter massages, with attention to the areas of my body that need it most (my  back, neck and shoulders) for only $24 for 20 minutes. It’s far easier and cheaper for me to get three 20-minute massages than one hour massage on a table. And it costs me at least $10 less ($70 if you did a full hour at WWM versus $80 for a table massage at a spa). Now, I do enjoy table massages. But they take more time because you not only have to factor in the time for making the appointment as well as the actual massage time, but also time for getting disrobed and dressed after the massage, and time to find parking. At Working Well Massage chair stations, we are located inside Whole Foods stores with free parking. So you can get a great 20 minute massage, grab a healthy meal and you are on your way back to the busy-ness of your life.

  • No need to make an appointment! If someone else is already receiving a massage when you arrive, simply sign in and wait your turn.
  • Before your massage begins, let the therapist know how long you’d like the massage to last and any areas that are bothering you. Be sure to let him or her know if you have any medical contraindications such as high or low blood pressure, pregnancy, or fever.
  • Your therapist will help you get seated in the chair and begin the massage. Let him or her know if you need the pressure adjusted. We welcome your feedback; it helps us give you a better massage.
  • When your massage ends, your therapist will help you out of the chair . He or she will provide you with any feedback you may need about stretching or follow-up.
  • Pay the therapist for the massage. Gratuity is always appreciated but not required.

First came Ratemyprofessor for students to rate college professors.. Then there was Yelp for consumers to rate just about everything. Now there are  a number of websites offering reviews on all kinds of things. One of the latest review websites to catch my eye is the new Rate my yoga.

On this new website, you can rate your yoga teacher, rate your yoga studio or look up a variety of products offered such as yoga videos and props.

Listings for studios and teachers that want to promote themselves are on the site are FREE. (Don’t you love Free in this day and age.) And the cost to write a review: your time and effort only.

So, if you are looking for a yoga studio, or are a yoga teacher or studio owner that wants to get yourself listed, check out Rate my yoga.

One of the many reasons I enjoy having a small business inside Whole Foods Market-Lincoln Park is the support of the store management and team members. From the very first day I started managing the massage booth in the Lincoln Park store, my staff and I have felt welcomed and appreciated by Whole Foods Team Leaders (aka managers) and Team Members (aka staff). Whenever I see Rich Howley, the Store Team Leader, as he stacks shelves, speaks with shoppers, encourages his team and overall keeps the new store well stocked, well-managed and well run, I feel Working Well Massage is part of something really special. I know Rich cares about his store and wants to give shoppers a great place to shop, hang out and even get a great massage. And Team Members are super helpful to shoppers, upbeat and happy to have us in the store and get a massage when they can as well.

Recently Rich suggested we relocate our massage station about 20 feet from our previous location to give us a solid wall behind our booth and make us easier to find on the main floor. We’ve been located next to the Express lane and many shoppers get confused as to which “lane” to enter: the massage booth or the Express lane. By relocating our booth closer to the staircase leading up to the Mezzanine, we are out of the direct flow of checkout traffic, we have a quieter, more private space for massage and we have more room for our clients coats and carts near our booth. Once again, Rich was looking out for Whole Foods shoppers as well as Working Well Massage clients and massage therapists.   So we moved our booth and are so happy with our new location!

Now some of our clients are a little confused about where we are now. Even though we did not move very far from our previous location, people are creatures of habit, and have a hard time with change. Hopefully this blog post will clear things up!

The Lincoln Park Whole Foods Market, for the uninitiated, is a 75,000 square foot space and one of the 3 largest Whole Foods Markets in the country. Our Working Well Massage station is located behind the Express Checkout lanes and next to the in store restaurant area (aka the “grocer-ant”). Shoppers can buy deli meat, grab a quick bite from the salad bar or hot food bar, or eat at one of the in store restaurants, and then get a great chair massage. OR, they often get a muscle tension reducing massage, then shop and eat. With free wireless internet at Whole Foods Market Lincoln Park, many of my friends and clients spend hours sitting on their computers, having meetings with their own clients or friends, and people watching far above our booth. I’m not trying to write a Whole Foods brochure here, but for those that have not yet visited Whole Foods in Lincoln Park, you are so missing an amazing shopping experience. Plus a wine bar and a beer/coffee bar!  Even a trail mix bar, bath salt bar and Gelato bar too.

For those that are uncomfortable with the idea of “getting a massage in a grocery store,” fear not. Our massage station is well secluded behind paper screens and wood cabinets. And with chair massage, no one takes off their clothes so there is no need to worry about being seen as our talented massage therapists work your sore and tense muscles–through your clothes! (Think sports massage without the sweat.)

Stop by our new booth and meet Dennis, Heidi, Mysti, Kimosha, Cindy, Andrew, Yuriy or Robert Ertel. They are all fantastic massage therapists with their own unique massage styles. But they all have one thing in common: They give some of the best massages in Chicago and are part of the Working Well Massage team!

Wondering why I haven’t posted much this week? I’ve been busy making changes to the Working Well Massage chair massage stations. We completely remodeled our massage booth in Whole Foods Market-Gold Coast at 30 W Huron. We replaced our paper screens with beautiful maple shuttered screens and new cabinets. Check out our new look below.
